The art of Shane Smith
Looks like your course is proving useful!Three very different approaches to the same theme- a nice demonstration of your versatility.I'm enjoying that sort of graphically stylised approach to form in these new pieces. Is that part of the efficiency of the design method you're learning now?I'll be looking closely at these a fair bit over the next few weeks to try and pick up a little of your fluency and restraint. The centre character could be very useful as inspiration for one of my own I've wanted to rework. I'm still drawing daily and continue to improve but usually I feel I'm just getting more of those crap drawings out before I get to the good stuff! Each of these seems to have something unique to recommend it.For me it's the modelling and colour choices on the first. The attitude, convincing form and lovely shape abstraction of the second. The instantly communicated character of the third (as well as the cool way his glasses fit to his nose, not to his ears!). Nice subtle glows on the third too, I guess there's no reason why cartoon characters shouldn't also express something of the beauty of light.Looking forward to the next.
